MY STORY
I suppose I officially became interested in cakes when my mother's birthday fell on 10/10/10. My first attempt at a "fancy cake" was a topsy turvy (or Mad Hatter) cake for her birthday that year. It was awful! But I loved every second of making it.
After that, my husband and I started our family and it was several years before I did another "fancy cake" for anyone. The second was a wine barrel cake for my sister's 30th birthday. That cake sealed the deal for me and I started doing cakes for every family birthday. I did a few cakes for close friends, too. It wasn't until 2017 that I was talked into branching out.
I was working a day job at the time and a few of my girlfriends at work convinced me to sign up for a vendor event my workplace was hosting. I nervously signed up and wildly over baked, haha! The response I received was overwhelmingly positive, though. That's when Sara's Sweets really became a thing.
I primarily do event cakes, wedding cakes, and cupcakes. Cupcakes are probably my favorite and I love finding unique and interesting flavors/recipes. I limit myself to one or two cakes/orders per weekend (depending on complexity) because it's important to me that each cake receive my full attention. Each cake is personal to me and I put my heart into every one.
